Biggest Upgrades from the Previous Year
The all-new 2023 Subaru Ascent has been rebuilt from the ground up. The only remnants of the 2022 model are the drivetrain and engine setup. The new vehicle comes with a more assertive front and rear fascia, sporting a partial vertical headlight with a new accent DLR, while retaining the horizontal element from the previous model.
At the rear, the car now has a C-shape tail light configuration, bringing the new Subaru Ascent in line with the rest of the range. A pronounced grill with black detailing adds a final assertive touch, as does an all-new bumper.

Trim Comparison
While there are five main trims for this year’s Ascent, the engine and performance largely remain the same. The primary differences are with the interior and exterior features and if you’re adding a Captain’s Chair. These trims with starting prices are Convenience ($40,995), Touring ($45,495), Onyx ($47,295), Limited ($50,895), and Premiere ($53,995).
Interior Layout and Options
The 2023 Subaru Ascent comes loaded with new interior additions, such as a SUBARU STARLINK 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus interface, replacing the outgoing 6-inch display. The base model also comes with 19 cup holders, 6 Harmon Kardonn speakers, and a manually adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column.
The base model also gives you space for eight passengers with a middle bench, while opting for higher trims replaces the base bench with comfortable and ergonomically superior captain seats in the middle row.
Exterior Layout and Options
The base 2023 Subaru Ascent comes standard with 18-inch aluminum allow wheels. These are upgraded to 20-inch on the higher trims like the 2nd generation Onyx edition. The Onyx also replaces the silver grill detail with a gloss black finish, rounding off the assertive new look considerably. Expect LED Steering Responsive Headlights on all trim levels, as well as raised roof rails, two-speed windshield wipers, and 245/60 R18 105H all-season tires.
Technology, Infotainment, and Connectivity
If your travels are loaded with devices, you’ll benefit from the illuminated front USB-A and USB-C inputs, as well as USB-a and USB-C charging ports in the second row. As is standard in most modern cars, you can also connect both Android and iOS devices to your new 2023 Subaru Ascent with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration on all trim levels.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
This is where the 2023 Subaru Ascent outperforms its competitors. The new model features the Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, as well as the all-new EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The car also has a Brake Override System and Brake Assist, resulting in more effective breaking under most road conditions.
You can also opt to replace the previously-standard 180-degree exterior camera with a new 360-degree setup, making those tricky parking spots a breeze to navigate.
